Welcome to Haiti!

We arrived to Haiti Saturday morning around 8:30am.  I had purchased a first class ticket to accommodate our need for extra large baggage.  We were also prepared to pay extra for one bag that was overweight by 20 lbs. and another extra bag…BUT we were blessed with a flight that wasn’t full so ALL our baggage was allowed on and we were not charged anything extra!  PLUS, we had the maximum amount of carry-on baggage that the 5 of us could bring on the plane but they ended up checking many of those pieces as well for us for free!  This was super-duper helpful since many of those “carry-on” bags were very heavy and full of our homeschool curriculum.  We made it through security easily and overall our entire travels to our new home were smooth.

It turns out I (with JohnEllis as a lap baby) were the only ones in first class!  It is strange for me to fly first class but even more bizarre to be the only one there.  Near the end of the flight, the attendant escorted Jody and the other 2 boys with their bags up to first class so were were all able to depart the plane quickly and together.  We have felt God’s hand upon our entire journey and we are beyond grateful for the extras He has given.  I’m amazed at how he goes above and beyond!  Thanks God!

Welcome to Haiti!  Welcome Home!

Waiting in the immigration line.  We were the 1st flight into Haiti which turned out to be awesome because although always a little nutty, it was nothing like we have experienced on previous visits with hundreds of people crammed into a small un-air-conditioned space.  The line was relatively short and we came through easily for Haiti airport standards.  Above is a picture of Lucas lying on the ground covered in dirt already…seriously it took only 5 minutes for us to be in Haiti before he was dirty and the only time he hasn’t been dirty since is while he is being washed.  I am trying to learn to just let go of my crazy OCD need for clean because it just isn’t happening here.  Pray for me! =)

We then drove the long drive from Port Au Prince to our home in Leogane.  We had to make one pit stop along the way.  Haitian style.  The boys love it here!

Yes, I am THAT mom and I actually documented my little boy peeing on the side of the rode in Haiti.

This is were we are staying right now.  It is a small apartment above the orphanage clinic.  Our actual home should be completed for move in this next week.  We can’t wait!  I will post pics of our new place once we move in.

We are thankful to be here.  It hasn’t been easy so far and we really need your prayers for our transition…but we are still thankful to be here.

We give glory to God.

  5. It was great to read this tonight... like an early Thanksgiving present! We are missing all of you like crazy, but we are doing fine. I got the house ready for Thanksgiving... So nice that you had already decorated the tables! Jonathan/Jacob have spent this week with dad since he was off. They trimmed shrubs & already have Christmas lights up. THAT is a 1st for us! Of course, that makes me miss y'all even more! It has really helped Grandaddy's heart to have the boys here cause he's missing you guys badly! Jonathan/Grandaddy also put up the steering wheels on the fort, so tell the boys they will be ready for them next time they r at grandmom's! I am so very thankful that your flight was so totally blessed. You certainly had lots of prayer covering and God was so good to go over and beyond anything I could have imagined for you. I love what Sarah wrote above about hanging in there... that soon you would be here & homesick for Haiti. I think it just show great support & love from Jody's sister! You are awesome, Sarah Brooks! Sweet lil' Cricket, I love you and pray that God will surround you with everything you need to live in Haiti and adjust quickly to all the dirt, etc. It will be easier when you get in your own place. Praying you will have an incredible time Thanksgiving with the others up on the mountain and it will give some cooler relief. Happy, Happy Thanksgiving! Much love, Mom :)
